OUR JOURNEY
Hy-Hybrid Energy is a clean energy company which focuses on integration of different energy systems to get the optimum performance, efficiency and cost benefits. We are specialists in all major fuel cell types, renewable energy systems, hydrogen storage and production. With our in-depth experience in the hydrogen business, we provide services in the fuel cells, electrolysers & Green hydrogen supply chain, including but not limited to mobility, industrial, back-up, power generation and heating sector decarbonization.
OUR MISSION
ABOUT HY-HYBRID ENERGY
Since its establishment in 2018, Hy-Hybrid Energy has led several projects in hydrogen, fuel cells and electrolysers across the globe, including the first of its kind in Hungary, the fuel cell bus development project which also includes battery electric buses & hydrogen powered drones development. In another project, we worked with a partner Company to setup a Green Hydrogen Plant overseas. We are also proud to be the world's first in setting-up a platform (International Hydrogen Aviation Conference, IHAC) which gathers leading experts from the aviation sector, discussing the role of hydrogen in decarbonisation, annually. Other ongoing projects include low and high temperature fuel cell systems development for transport, back-up and off-grid applications, hydrogen powered aviation and sustainable aviation fuel development. Hy-Hybrid Energy is also leading an e-SAF project together with consortium of airlines, lessors, airports, fuel suppliers, financers, OEMs, regulators and policy makers.

Our Journey So Far

Dr. Naveed Akhtar, Founder & CEO
Dr. Naveed Akhtar is a pioneering leader in hydrogen energy, electrolyser and fuel cell technology, with over 25 years of experience driving innovation in the sector. As the founder and CEO of Hy-Hybrid Energy, he is at the forefront of zero-emission mobility, green hydrogen production, fuel cell development, and hydrogen aviation projects.
A Chartered Engineer in the UK, Dr. Akhtar has worked with four of the six major types of fuel cells (PEMFC, AFC, DMFC, and SOFC) across Germany, Canada, the Netherlands, and the UK. During his tenure in Pakistan, he spearheaded the country’s first-ever Metal Hydride Hydrogen Storage Project (2001–2004) and established Pakistan’s first dedicated Hydrogen Energy Laboratory at NED University, Karachi.
He has led transformative initiatives, including green hydrogen & e-fuel projects at NEOM, Saudi Arabia, and served as Chief of Technology - Hydrogen at Oracle Power, UK, Vice President of Technology at Kraftwerk GmbH, Germany and as Chief Scientist at AFC Energy, UK. In 2020, he launched the world’s first international Hydrogen Aviation Conference (IHAC), creating a global platform for collaboration and innovation in sustainable aviation.
Mentored by the late Professor T. Nejat VeziroÄŸlu, founding President of the International Association for Hydrogen Energy, Dr. Akhtar has authored over 30 papers in scientific journals and holds 11 patents in fuel cell technology. He holds a multidisciplinary academic background with a B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering, an M.Sc. in Renewable Energy from Germany, and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Birmingham, UK.
